Colorado

Colorado makes it easy for residents of all 50 states and basically anyone to get married and there are SO many elopement locations to choose from. The best thing about Colorado besides the shocking number of scenic elopement locations is that you can get married completely alone! You don’t need the signature of a wedding officiant, nor do you need any witnesses to sign. This is called solemnizing your own marriage and it’s awesome. However, there are some restrictions based on age, relationship (cousins are okay, super weird) and current marital status (aka no more than one legal partner at a time). For more information and restrictions, check out Denver’s website.

If you’d prefer a remote area with a multitude of elopement location options, Big Sur is the way to go. You can have a sunset ceremony on the beach or get married among the redwoods. If you choose to get married at one of the many locations in the State Park, you’ll need a permit, but it’s usually easy to secure for groups of 10 or less. With plenty of accommodation locations throughout the area, you can get married then stay for a crowd free honeymoon!

You can rent a home on the ranch and have a weekend getaway for a few close friends and family, or stay in one of their luxury glamping tents or one of their many suites. With over 70 activities to choose from, this elopement location can also be a great honeymoon option as well!

With lush outdoor scenery and pristine mountain lakes, the Adirondack region boasts some of the most spectacular views and backdrops for an elopement. If you don’t mind a hike, you can get some otherworldly shots on top of the many mountains of the Adirondacks. An elopement can happen anywhere, and staying home is the safest option for now. If you’re on a tight budget, you can get creative and use what you have in your home and yard as decor. If not, use the money you’re saving by not traveling to create a smaller version of your dream wedding! No yard? No problem! Have a stoop wedding, a living room wedding or get married in a nearby park! In addition to traveling elopements, The Nomad’s Direction is happy to help plan and design micro-weddings or elopements in people’s hometowns.

In addition to these being great elopement destination options, all of these locations make a great COVID safe vacation spots in general! Plan a girls weekend of hiking in Montana or head to the Adirondacks for a romantic weekend getaway. By visiting destinations with lots of outdoor options, you can keep yourself, your travel partners and the locals that much safer.
